River Otters Harvesting Wild Rice A traditional staple food of the Ojibway, wild rice was harvested in the fall. This was done by a pair, with the person in back poling a canoe through the shallow water while one up front used a pair of 'knockers' to bend the grass over the canoe and gently knock the ripe grains into the boat. River Otters represent joy and frivolity, though they have been known to work on occasion. $1800
